Stevens Point/Plover, located smack dab in the middle of Wisconsin, is one of the best outdoor recreation destinations in the Midwest. Our convenient location at the crossroads of highway 10 and Interstate 39 makes driving easy no matter if you are coming from the North, South, East or West, we are at the “Center of it All”.
The area lies along the Wisconsin, Tomorrow and Little Plover Rivers and offers nearly 20,000 acres of waterways for fishing, boating, canoeing or kayaking. The Wisconsin River takes on many different shapes and forms as it flows through Portage County, giving fishing enthusiasts a variety of angling opportunities. Dams on the Wisconsin River create the Lake DuBay, Stevens Point and Biron Flowages. The Tomorrow River is Portage County’s main trout stream. Brook and Brown trout are the species of trout most commonly found in the Tomorrow River. If you don’t have access to a boat, canoe or kayak we have plenty of rental businesses in the area to suite your needs.
Enjoy our abundance of green space by hiking or biking the nearly 60 miles of Green Circle or Tomorrow River trails. The Green Circle Trail is a 30.5 mile circular nature trail that winds through the beauty of river shores, trees, wild birds and animals-recalling the history of huge pineries, pioneer settlements and lore of the Wisconsin and Plover Rivers. The Tomorrow River trail is developed on an abandoned railroad grade. The scenic, limestone packed, 25 mile trail connects the villages of Plover, Amherst Junction, Amherst and Iola-Scandinavia.
