With its wealth of natural resources and recreational opportunities, Shawano County's woods, waters, and wildlife are enough to entice any outdoor enthusiast whether they like to hunt, fish, camp, golf, or snowmobile. Visitors who are looking for a variety of water sports will find trout fishing and kayaking on the Embarrass and Red Rivers, canoeing and rafting on the Wolf River, as well as a multitude of boating opportunities available on the 6,100-acre Shawano Lake. There are 300 miles of groomed and marked snowmobile trails that wind their way through majestic forests and meadows. Two recreation trails traverse the county and offer scenic views for bicyclists and hikers. Shawano County offers casinos for the gaming enthusiast. The area's array of retail stores offers visitors a unique shopping experience. Bonduel features Amish treasures, and Shawano's Historic Downtown Main Street features hometown hospitality, cozy cafes, flea markets, farmer’s markets, specialty and antique shops. Family activities are also plentiful in Shawano Country, which is home to amusement parks, go kart tracks, nature centers, sports parks, and historical sites. Area Indian Nations, an Amish Community and a variety of ethnic descendants contribute to a unique mixture of culture and customs. Traditions are captured in festivals and celebrations, art exhibits, performances, and museums. Local and ethnic arts, crafts, foods and clothing are demonstrated and sold at area festivals and gift shops.
